The money goes towards the Servowood project, which aims to develop European standards to facilitate the predication of service life for exterior wood coatings.

The consortium includes the European Coatings Federation and trade associations and consultancies in Denmark, Germany, Spain and the UK, representing both paint manufacturers and the wood supply chain. Two small to medium-sized coatings and joinery manufacturers are also involved.

The Servowood project will run for three years, during which time a wide range of wood products will be exposed to natural weathering and a range of accelerated tests.

The aim is that the results will help develop an improved European Standard to benefit all those involved in timber construction.
