The installation at M Hechenblaickner Holzhandelsgesellschaft’s central warehouse in Graz involved the addition of mobile cantilever racks that sit on racks and can be moved electronically.

Previously, the company stored its sawn timber, veneer, solid wood panels and semi-finished products in piles on the floor across 20,000m2. Moving products was time consuming and often resulted in damage.

Ohra specified narrow rack stands for wider aisles that could be accessed by front-loading and side-loading fork lifts.

Of the 10 60m-long racks installed (four to five levels high up to 9.2m) only two were permanently fixed. The remaining racks are on carriages and can be driven apart by remote control, allowing storage capacity to be almost doubled.

The improvements have provided much improved visibility of available goods, better product access times and reduced damage.

Meanwhile, in the Netherlands Ohra installed a new honeycomb pallet rack system at Gooskens Hout Groep.

Gooskens needed to increase storage capacity due to customers’ rationalising their processes and minimising their own warehouse stock.

The honeycomb racking in its new warehouse allows timber beams and profiles to be stored lengthways in 6.5m-deep compartments, giving better visibility of stock and rapid picking.

The new warehouse is 120m long with a height of 6m, with each storage level able to carry 2,800kg.
