Malaysia’s Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) is looking at ways of turning 22,000ha of land in the country into a profitable venture.

Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Yusof Noor said the land, much of which is on hilly terrain, was mainly covered with mature trees and was unsuitable for oil palm cultivation.

Options under consideration include turning the land into a timber-related business, including the replanting of trees, or setting up agro-tourism activities.
