Richard Meaker, of RJ Meaker Fencing of Brighton, was found guilty before Brighton magistrates on October 1 of two breaches of the health and safety regulations.
The court heard that a customer was in the company’s depot at Portslade in Brighton when the fork lift truck reversed into him. He had to be treated in hospital for injuries to his foot and lower leg.
"Once again, it has taken a tragic incident involving an innocent individual to high light the fundamental importance of following health and safety regulations," said Tim Nichols, director of environmental health & licensing at Brighton City Council.
"It is vital that employers, businesses and organisations take responsibility to provide a safe work place."
Founded in the 1970s RJ Meaker has three DIY outlets across Sussex and one trade centre at Portslade in Brighton. It supplies fencing, wooden garden buildings and decking to both the commercial and residential market.
