Finnish plywood production in the first six months of 2003 reached a record 690,000m3, some 12% higher than the same period last year.

The Finnish Forest Industries Federation (FFIF) said plywood output climbed 8% during the second quarter to a total of 350,000m3.

Sawn softwood production for the half-year was 2% up on last year to 7 million m3, with second quarter output reaching 3.5 million m3.

Total output for all forest operations in Finland during January-June was about 2% higher than 2002

But the FFIF said demand for most forest products was slack as growth in the world economy remained sluggish during the second quarter.
