Forest fires on the French Riviera have claimed the lives of at least four people – two of them British – and forced the evacuation of thousands of others.
There is speculation that the fires were caused by arson after claims that molotov cocktails were found in the Var region around Frejus, and the situation has been branded a “new form of terrorism”.
Just over a week ago 24,710 acres of the Massif des Maures were burned, and the latest fire is raging through a further 19,770 acres.
