Forest Enterprise Wales’ operations department is running a pilot project teaching people to operate hi-tech forestry machinery.

A rolling apprenticeship programme takes on two paid apprentices every six months, training them to meet a skills shortage in the sector.

FE Wales is looking at supporting local Welsh college students as part of the project. It is also expected to announce an in-house package that will mean all training can be done through the Forestry Commission Training Service.

Further information for apprentices, employers and contractors is available from Neil Stoddart on 01970 821210.
