The amount of British timber delivered to primary wood processors and others in 2001 was slightly up on the previous year.

According to the just published Forestry Commission‘s ‘British Timber Statistics 2001’ a total of 7.5 million green tonnes of British roundwood was delivered, 91% of which was softwood.

Deliveries of logs to sawmills accounted for 4.1 million green tonnes – or 55% of the total. A further 1.7 million green tonnes (23%) were delivered to wood based panel mills and 0.9 million green tonnes (13%) to integrated pulp and paper mills. Other uses included round fencing and fuelwood.
