A federation representing some of France’s biggest DIY retailers has decided to support all reputable forest certification schemes.
Federation des Magasins de Bricolage (FMB), whose members include Castorama, BricoDepot and Leroy Merlin, said its decision was based on the fact no mutual recognition existed between the different certification systems – something which it regrets.
FMB’s commission for sustainable development has been examining the marketing of legal and sustainable timber for several years. It said its members were committed to the development of a policy for sustainable forest management throughout the world.
The federation’s membership sells about 60,000 different products, with an annual turnover of about €10.8bn.
