Wiltshire-based The Hill Brush Co Ltd has achieved Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification under BM TRADA Certification‘s TRADA-Trak scheme.

The certification covers timber purchasing, manufacturing, sales and distribution of brush backs, hampers and wine boxes.

The company sources rubberwood from Sri Lanka for its brush backs, and UK and imported species including beech, sycamore, ash and redwood, for its specialist box manufacture.

Operations manager Kevin Bittles said sourcing FSC softwood is surprisingly easy, but hardwood is more difficult.

BM TRADA managing director Hugh Taylor said: ‘We are seeing more and more companies coming forward for FSC certification as an increasing number of purchasers seek reassurance about where timber and timber products come from.

‘This is particularly relevant for firms like Hill Brush who are supplying major retailers. It can also be a vital marketing tool for manufacturers.’
