The Cydcoed – Woods for All programme has allocated £332,000 in grants to increase use of woodland in two community schemes.

Welsh rural community company Pobl y Fforest will spend its £182,000 grant on a series of projects aimed at bringing jobs and money into the area, which is surrounded by the 6,198ha Brechfa Forest.

Plans include converting a former sawmill into a forest activity centre to provide woodland education; creating paths through the forest; and a forest school taking adults and children into the outdoor environment.

The Fy Nghoeden project will use a £150,000 grant to plant a community woodland around one of north Wales’ largest council housing estates.
