Furniture manufacturers have discussed their concerns with government officials over plans for new limits for wood combustion plant emissions.
The British Furniture Confederation (BFC), British Contract Furnishing Association, National Bed Federation, Furniture Industry Research Association, Furniture Industry Environment Committee and British Furniture Manufacturers Association took part in the meeting with Defra.
The sector is concerned about proposed amendments to guidance (PG1/12(04)) for wood combustion plants which, it says, “threatens to impose commercially damaging new limits on particle and carbon monoxide emissions”.
“The meeting was very constructive and encouraging and produced a number of new, more workable proposals,” said BFC company secretary Dr Pete Beele.
Proposals will be circulated to members in the coming weeks with a view to achieving an industry consensus for Defra on the preferred outcome.
