Workers at two Plysorol subsidiaries in Gabon held managers hostage last Monday to secure their pay demands.

The managers were released several hours after being held at the premises of Leroy Gabon and Pogab in Libreville.

The French plywood company, which was bought by two Chinese companies last year, was placed in receivership by a French court last week.

The managers were released when they agreed to pay the workers in line with a collective bargaining agreement.

French conservationists have expressed concern at the takeover of the firm by Chinese businessman Guohua Zhang, who also owns Honest Timber. Plysorol owns 500,000ha of forest in Gabon.
