The organisation said numbers held up despite slightly lower approval numbers for new German housing.

This year is forecast to be better due to good order numbers at the beginning of the year because of the mild winter. Sales in the timber construction sector are forecast to grow 3.5%.

The state with the highest timber construction rate is Baden-Württemberg with a rate of 23.7% of all new homes constructed. And employment in the wood building sector is also growing – 64,828 employees working for 11,413 carpentry and timber construction companies represents a 12.4% growth compared to the year of the financial crash (2008).

The intake for industry training courses saw a similar level of growth.
