Sheffield’s £7m Winter Garden, a landmark structure using a series of glulam timber arches, has been highly commended at an awards ceremony.

The building, designed by architect Pringle Richards Sharratt and consulting engineer Buro Happold, was singled out at the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Yorkshire Awards.

Other awards so far won by the structure, which opened at the end of last year, include the Concrete Society 2002 Building Award and a Civic Trust prize for both “design and contribution to the community”.
