Manchester-based Hardwood Dimensions Ltd (HDL) has bought the ‘pack sales’ division of Alan Thomas Craig Ltd of Liverpool for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition will become part of HDL, trading under the name of Pendle Hardwoods, and Hardwood Dimensions (Holdings) Ltd director Peter Waterhouse said the purchase was seen as a logical and natural progression from the development of Devon Hardwoods Ltd which was established in 1985 near Exeter.

He said: “Over recent years Devon Hardwoods has grown rapidly and a move to a new site in 2003 enabled further growth.

“The company supplies a wide variety of hardwoods and wood products to the south-west region and South Wales and is particularly strong in European oak.”

Mr Waterhouse said the principal role of Pendle Hardwoods was to supply, from pack lots to full loads of timber, to importers from extensive landed stocks and forward purchases.

“Our stocks comprise both temperate and tropical hardwoods. We offer a quick and efficient service ex yard.”

Mr Waterhouse said there were plans to expand the range of species and wood products and added: “Our Trafford Park site already has Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody registration and we will be adding FSC products to our range over the coming months.”
