A reduction in the priority given by local authorities to health and safety enforcement is causing the Health and Safety Commission concern.
It says there has been a 10% drop in inspection rates and there are less full time health and safety officers than there were five years ago.
Allan Davies, head of the local authority unit for the Health and Safety Executive, said: “Local government must recognise its responsibility for health and safety enforcement and make adequate arrangements to deliver this duty.”
