After testing its materials with various edgebander manufacturers, Contour chose Homag UK to update its edgebanding facilities. It already had one Homag machine in its factory – a Weeke Venture 3 CNC machining centre.
Contour opted for two machines – the Brandt Highflex 1220 edgebander and the Brandt KTD 720 manual edgebander.
The Highflex is set up to edgeband Contour’s furniture using 0.4mm melamine tape and 2mm ABS tape, while a built-in trimming unit means Contour can finish the panels on the machines without having to do additional work.
"This has resulted in huge time savings of about two to three hours a day," said Contour manager Richard Meakin.
The KTD 720 machine allows Contour to cope with sharp edges and PVC tape, enabling the manufacture of additional designs to give a competitive advantage.
Mr Meakin said the machines had made a significant difference to Contour’s business.
Contour has also contracted Homag UK on a two-year service contract for parts and labour.
