Kevin Howard, sales executive of importer Barrington and Carlson Timber was the winner of the TTJ Golf Challenge 2002.
The contest this year took place at the Le Tronchet and Des Ormes courses in Brittany and attracted 50 competitors, comprising TTJ readers and their guests.
Mr Howard, who played off a handicap of 12, emerged the winner at Le Tronchet and his score of 39 also netted him the Challenge Trophy ahead of Mathew Green of Euler Trade Indemnity, an 18-handicap player who scored 36 points to win at Des Ormes.
This year BSW Timber was the Challenge special sponsor, with national sales manager Alan Wheat awarding nearest the pin, furthest drive and course winner trophies. The company also provided goody bags to everyone in the competition.
At Le Tronchet the nearest the pin trophy went to Rob Wright of Swiftwood Products, while Dave Saunders of Raphael made the longest drive. At Des Ormes Gilmour McKellar of BSW Timber won nearest the pin and Frank Green of Caledonian Plywood South hit the longest drive.
All the trophies were presented before a gala dinner on the overnight return to Portsmouth.
A full report on the Golf Challenge will appear in next week’s TTJ magazine.
