Builder Mike Shrimpton and wife Christine had been living in a caravan near their property as Mike completed renovations to their home, which were made necessary following Christine’s diagnosis with dementia, to make the house safe, and living conditions easier. Work halted when Mike was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer and a serious heart condition. The family was facing another winter in the caravan, until BoB, Tom Easter, Howdens and a team of skilled tradespeople volunteers from the local area stepped in.
Howdens teamed up with BoB, a registered charity that completes practical projects to help members of the UK construction industry and their families who are battling illness or injury. The kitchen was fitted by Tom Easter, Howdens Kitchen Fitter of the Year.
“Mike has worked all of his life completing projects for others, so we had no hesitation about stepping up and supplying a new kitchen for their family,” said Adrian Heaton, director of design at Howdens. “It has been a humbling experience to see all of the Band of Builders volunteers and the wider community come together for this project.”
