International Decorative Surfaces (IDS) has managed to break through the £100m sales barrier after just five years in business.

The company, which reached the milestone in 2004, says it has grown sales by 70% since its formation in 1999.

Newcastle-under-Lyme based IDS attributed the strong sales to organic growth in core markets and acquisitions, with the flooring and worktop sectors described as “especially buoyant”, reflecting major consumer trends in home improvement.

John Bagshaw, IDS managing director, said: “We have exceeded the sales target that we set ourselves, which makes this an especially historic milestone. We are a young business and I am very proud of this achievement over such a short space of time.”

But he described trading conditions as “very tough” at the moment and a key challenge is to keep IDS products competitive in an aggressive market.

The company, which also supplies laminates and panel products, has a national network of 10 regional branches focusing on the furniture, shopfitting, construction and kitchen sectors.
