India is hosting the Seventh World Bamboo Congress and the World Bamboo Expo.
The seven-day congress and four-day expo will take place in New Delhi from Feburary 27 and will be attended by Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, plus more than 600 delegates from about 40 countries.
India’s bamboo industry is worth some Rs2,043 crore but with an estimated potential of Rs4,463 crore.
Global trade in bamboo and bamboo products is estimated to be worth more than US$4.5bn.
