Malaysian customs and forestry officials have seized a barge carrying 524 suspected illegal logs from Indonesia.
Three Indonesians were arrested during the swoop at Tawau, Sabah, on January 2. The barge and motor were valued at about M$474,372.
Sabah’s customs department says the high demand for round logs in the state attracts log smugglers from Indonesia. It said smuggling into Tawau was a particular problem due to its closeness to Kalimantan.
