On January 27 The Timber Trade Federation‘s Training and Education Committee is taking a stand at the Oxford University Alternative Careers Fair. Committee members Eve Dennehy of Wood for Good and Camilla Hair of SCA will be at the event to hand out literature and answer queries about careeer options in the timber sector.
Jane Hull, a framework development officer at the Forestry Commission, will also take part, giving a presentation on her experience and career path in the industry.
“This our first venture with Oxford University and they seem keen to develop a relationship with us on careers, which is quite exciting,” said Ms Dennehy.
She added that the TTF Training Committee was exploring taking part in careers events at other universities.
The Doorway, the timber sector internet careers website, launched by the TTF and hosted by TTJ, is also being developed, with a link banner on the popular Hobsons students’ career website.
The TTF has additionally e-mailed 22,000 engineering students to attract more into timber engineering and timber frame housing, inviting them to read The Federation‘s Wood You? careers leaflet.
It has budgeted £20,000 for education and training initiatives in 2007.
