Canada-based International Forest Products Ltd (Interfor) has reported a net loss of C$1.7m for the first quarter compared to a net loss of C$3.8m a year ago.

The company has reported net sales of C$179.7m for the first quarter of 2011, compared to C$139.9m a year ago.

Production of lumber in the first quarter of 2010 was 332 million board feet, up 10% versus the fourth quarter, while sales volumes were down 2% to 313 million board feet in same period of 2011.

Interfor expects anticipated seasonal increases in home construction and renovations in the coming months, and a significant and sustained improvement through 2011.
