Leading wood machinery manufacturer Hundegger has hosted 16 visitors from Ireland, collectively representing over 7,000 timber frame house kits and thousands of timber roof trusses made this year.

The assembled group of visitors together have in total installed 13 Hundegger machines.

“The main aim of the trip was to showcase Hundegger’s latest technology and machinery,” said  Chris Osborne, Hundegger sales.

“More importantly, we wanted to demonstrate Germany’s construction processes, design approaches, and engineered timber products, highlighting that timber is the future for residential housing.”

Keith Armstrong from Armstrong Timber Engineering in Arklow joined the tour.

“Meeting various professionals from Irish manufacturers was a great networking opportunity, giving insight into different skills and perspectives within our industry,” he said.

“Visiting the Gump & Maier and Schreyögg factories really opened our eyes to what’s possible with engineered timber products. It’s clear that the Irish building industry isn’t fully leveraging timber yet. The hospitality was outstanding, all the Hundegger staff were generous with their time, and the food was excellent. We truly appreciate the chance to take part in this trip.”

Adam Lennox from FastHouse in Limavady said everyone found the trip both valuable and enjoyable. “Hundegger made a strong impression as a company producing top-quality equipment and service,” he said.

Hundegger UK/Ireland plans to organise further visits for the truss and timber frame industry in 2026. Prospective participants should contact Chris Osborne on c.osborne@hundegger.com.
