The International Tropical Timber Council has committed another US$6.6m in grants for initiatives promoting sustainable forest management, greater transparency in the tropical timber trade and the development of sustainable tropical forest-based industries.

Projects that will receive funding include the development of a sustainable management strategy for secondary forests in Peru and a programme to reduce impact logging in Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Joint action by civil society organisations and private sector tropical timber producers will also be financed to strengthen forest management and achieve environmental certification.
