JB Kind said fire-resistant doors were rarely supplied exactly as tested, as specifications may require the door to be supplied at a different size, perhaps with glazing or ironmongery different from that tested.
These variations could only be allowed if covered by an assessment report or data sheet issued by the approving body.
JB Kind said responsible suppliers could supply these forms and may also be members of an independent third-party certification scheme.
The company has heard reports from baffled buyers receiving door test reports that relate to an entirely different type of door from that they were enquiring about.
It had also heard of test reports showing the materials in the door did not match the materials in the test report, while other cases involve test reports not materialising.
"Without detailed information and testing it is impossible to say if the fire doors without the correct certification do or don’t meet the appropriate safety standards," said JB Kind managing director James Cadman. "However, personally I wouldn’t want to risk having one in my home."
