JELD-WEN has celebrated the official opening of its new Sheffield door factory with a major new contract to supply more than 2,500 boarded and hemlock doors every week.

Doors for the contract will be manufactured in the new facility, which has been opened by the Lord Mayor Sheffield councillor Alan Law and creates 30 jobs in the area.

JELD-WEN has organised the factory’s layout with lean management principles to minimise overheads and offset raw material price rises in an effort to keep customer pricing down.

A new preservative treatment plant has been installed to ensure the company does not have to relay on third-party treaters, while a dust extraction system completes the investment.

“The investment is part of our ambitious expansion plans and demonstrates our commitment to UK manufacturing,” said Richard Dolben, co-ordinating general manager at JELD-WEN in Sheffield.
