Jewson Ltd has strengthened its presence in London following the acquisition of Merton Timber Ltd.

The purchase on April 11, for an undisclosed sum, gives Jewson six additional branches across south London from Wimbledon to Orpington.

Merton Timber, which has an annual turnover of £15m, started in 1977 and sells all building materials but specialises in timber.

A spokesperson for Jewson said: ‘It strengthens Jewson’s influence within the M25, especially on the south side of London. There are no plans to change the name; it’s a very successful business which will be kept running as it is.’

David Frost, who formerly headed up Merton Timber, will remain with the company as consultant.

Jewson plans to continue its expansion by acquisition in areas where it does not have a strong presence.
