US agricultural equipment company John Deere is to establish a manufacturing and parts centre in Russia.
The company, which opened a forestry sales operation in St Petersburg seven years ago, will site the new premises close to Moscow, but has plans to expand throughout the country.
“Russia will be a major contributor to meeting the world’s future needs for food and forestry products,” said CEO Samuel Allen.
The company said it had been conducting in business in Russia for 100 years and the announcement was the first step in fulfilling expansion plans agreed at the US-Russia Business Summit in July.
