A management buyout has been successfully completed at Sunderland-based John Porter Doorsets.
The buyout, by a company owned by managing director Brian Pears and commercial director Ian McSally, saved the jobs of more than 60 staff who had remained loyal to the business throughout the difficult period. Sunderland City Council and One North East provided assistance with the deal, recognising the importance of retaining the skilled workforce.
The company went into administration on July 16, when PricewaterhouseCoopers assumed control.
“We are delighted with the speed and ease of the acquisition,” said Mr Pears. “We look forward to delivering an improved service and range of products.”
John Porter manufactured bespoke fire doors for the construction industry, supplying products throughout the UK and abroad.
It also makes hospital, acoustic, X-ray, ultra-clean and wet area doors and doorsets. The company is one of a number of national manufacturers approved by government for the supply of internal doorsets under the health technical memorandum 58 arrangements.
Founded in 1932, John Porter is credited with designing the first system doorset for hospitals in 1974.
