The 15-page “Easy Guide to the Green Deal” provides an overview of what the Green Deal intends to achieve in the residential property and non-domestic property sectors and how window and door manufacturers can become involved.

Sections deal with the roles of Green Deal providers, advisers, installers, as well as product and installer certification and the requirements of the Golden Rule.

The guide is illustrated with charts and diagrams to clarify current areas of confusion.

BWF chief executive Iain McIlwee said much confusion surrounded the Green Deal initiative, which aims to improve energy efficiency of UK homes without any upfront costs for the homeowner. He urged joinery businesses to start getting Green Deal ready.

“Our advice for joinery companies is to look at the various Green Deal roles and start thinking about whether your business may benefit from acting as an assessor, installer or even a provider, and what hoops you will need to jump through to ensure that your products are available for use as Green Deal measures through the various providers,” he said.

He also recommended members talk to customers and suppliers about the initiative and how they are intending to embrace it.
