The Dutch-based Keurhout Foundation has refuted suggestions by Greenpeace Netherlands that it was wrong to give logging company Congolose Industrielle du Bois (CIB) a sustainable forestry certification label for operations in Congo.

Greenpeace celebrated last week after it successfully complained about CIB’s actitivies to the Keurhout Board of Appeal. It then claimed the foundation has to revoke the label given to CIB.

But the foundation, started by the Dutch government to implement a policy of minimum demands for sustainable forestry and certification, says the board’s judgement relates to procedural matters on CIB’s forestry management plan, certifying body and chain of custody requirements.

It said Greenpeace’s claim that it had been wrong in granting CIB a certification label had not been supported by the Keurhout Board of Appeal.

The foundation is now investigating the matters before taking a final position.
