Duncan King has been appointed as director for the Institute of Wood Science (IWSc) and the Institute of Carpenters (IOC).

In his new role Mr King will have overall responsibility for the two institutes but with special attention being paid to market development and membership recruitment.

Announcing the appointment, both presidents of the institutes, Geoff Taylor (IWSc) and William Avery (IoC) agreed highlighted the publication of Lord Leitch’s report which recommends the government works towards a demand-led system to put the purchasing power for learning in the hands of employers and individual workers.

“I look forward to discussing with the various groups of the timber industry ways of raising the product knowledge of their staff such that it keeps pace with the up-skilling being undertaken by our major customer, construction,” said Mr King.
