Peter Latham has been appointed PEFC UK Ltd chairman.

Mr Latham is chairman of James Latham plc, one of Britain’s oldest timber companies. He also chairs the Forests Forever board; serves on the governing board of The Timber Trade Federation and is a member of the Council of the Commonwealth Forestry Association.

He succeeds Martin Gale who resigned as chairman following his recent decision to leave UPM-Kymmene after 16 years to start his own forestry and consulting business.

Commending the progress PEFC UK Ltd made under Mr Gale’s chairmanship, Latham commented: “The company has experienced unprecedented growth in a number of areas over the past year, including rising membership and a huge increase in demand for PEFC chain of custody certification in the UK. This has been a very good year for PEFC UK and I am committed to building on these successes, while promoting the unique value that credibly certified wood delivers.”

In addition, Mike Clark has stepped down to devote more time to his duties as Chairman of PEFC International Council. John Bardsley, managing director of Stora Enso UK also joins the PEFC UK board.
