The two branches of FH Thompson & Sons Ltd, one of the UK’s longest established merchants, have been acquired by James Latham plc and Travis Perkins Ltd.
Latham’s has acquired Thompson’s Gateshead sheet material and fabrication site which it is rebranding James Latham Gateshead.
Latham chairman Roger Latham said: “The acquisition is part of our growth strategy and for the first time, gives Lathams a presence in the north-east, which will deliver obvious benefits to our customer base in this region.
“The businesses provide mutual benefits and complimentary areas of expertise to deliver a wider product range and improved service to customers.”
The Gateshead outlet, which employs 17 people, already offered Lathams products but the range will now be extended. The site includes a small flat bonded panel fabrication and cut-to-size facility.
