North London-based Lawsons (Whetstone) Ltd has expanded south of the Thames following its takeover of Woolwich Timber Ltd for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition of the Plumstead-based softwood importer, merchant and treatment services provider on September 1 gives Lawsons a seventh branch in the capital.

A spokesperson for Woolwich Timber said the takeover was prompted by the decision of directors Nigel Bayman and Timothy Joyce to retire. He said: “It is a very amicable agreement that has been struck, so everyone is happy.”
