Charnwood Timber Ltd of Nottinghamshire has gone into liquidation with the loss of eight jobs.

Joint liquidators at KMPG have put Charnwood’s £1.3m annual turnover timber processing site at Langar up for sale, complete with machinery.

Peter Blair of KMPG said Charnwood made the break from timber merchant to machinist in 1997, after being hit by the early 90s recession and competition from large DIY stores.

It opened the Langar site and manufactured niche wood products for bedding and caravans.

Moving site and purchasing additional machinery incurred extra cost. In the latter part of 2000 and early 2001, orders were cut back or postponed, creating cash flow pressures.
