Letters have been sent to UK councils to convince them of the need to adopt responsible timber procurement policies.

The initiative is from the Central Point of Expertise on Timber, The Timber Trade Federation and WWF, supported by Defra and Local Partnerships.

The letters urge councillors in England and Wales that responsible timber procurement policies can combat illegal logging, promote the use of wood as a renewable resource and mitigate climate change.

Councillors were also told about free support available to local authorities. Follow-up emails have also been sent to relevant contacts at local authorities.
