The Nashville-based group said it had taken advantage of an improving housing market in the quarter and was optimistic that the favourable trend would continue.
Sales reached US$468m, a 33% growth compared top a year ago. The operating profit was US$44m, compared to a loss of US$73m a year ago.
The OSB division recorded an operating profit of US$49m (20112: US$-16m), while the engineered wood business, comprising LVL, LSL and I-joists, had a US$-3m loss.
