The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) has confirmed that there are still a number of issues that need to be sorted out to finalise the agreement, including working out the definition of legality and the input of stakeholders, and that a technical working group due to take place next week should help resolve these.

The FLEGT agreement is designed to guarantee the legality of Malaysian timber exports to EUrope and meet the verification requirements for tropical timber firms to exports wood to EU member states.
