Gerald Kinahan, 58, said he was offered £200 by a stranger to do the job and did not know the building in the Gloucestershire village of Apperley was listed until neighbours intervened. He denied breaching the Listed Buildings Act.
Magistrates at Cirencester were told the owner denied any knowledge of Mr Kinahan’s actions.
