Selected from almost 400 entries, the Built by Nature award follows a rigorous shortlisting and judging process by international experts, including Kevin McCloud, architect and Grand Designs host.  As one of the winning buildings, it will be further showcased as part of COP30 being held in Brazil in November, including the showing of a short documentary featuring Sir David Attenborough and Kevin McCloud.

The project is Australia’s first mass engineered timber fire and emergency services complex.

Principal architect of Baber Studio, Kim Baber, who led the design of the project, was in London to accept the award, which recognises excellence in timber building projects and their unparalleled sustainability credentials.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment and a validation of timber’s potential in modern construction,” said Tom Bruce-Jones, chairman of James Jones & Sons Group. “I’d like to congratulate the project team and the Queensland government on this outstanding achievement.

“The overarching message surrounding this accolade mirrors our recent UK initiatives advocating the utilisation of C16 timber in British construction, while reinforcing our broader global strategy centred on the pursuit of sustainable products and practices.”
