The result, which Mr Mayled describes as “a more aesthetic, energy-efficient and practical alternative to the conservatory”, can be seen at the forthcoming Chelsea Flower Show.

His Garden Room, sponsored by mineral wool insulation manufacturer Rockwool Ltd, which is providing the acoustic and firesafe insulation, will be partially clad in Medite Exterior MDF from Weyerhaeuser.

And the result, according to Mr Mayled, is an addition to the home which can be used all the year round without wasting energy on heating in the winter and air conditioning in the summer.

The Rockwool Garden Room at Chelsea will have a fully-glazed elevation to the garden, and can be more easily incorporated into a house design. It is estimated that, through the use of Rockpanel wall insulation and Medite Exterior cladding, the energy consumed is likely to be substantially reduced when compared to a standard, all-glass conservatory of similar design and usage patterns.

Medite Exterior MDF, which is Forest Stewardship Council certified, uses only softwood forest thinnings and selected wood chips from sustainable forestry resources in Ireland, and Rockwool is also regarded as environmentally friendly.
