The £6.5m fitting out of the National Waterfront Museum at Swansea incorporates around 3,000m2 of Medite MDF from Weyerhaeuser.
The landmark building, a £31m dedication to Welsh industry and innovation, is part new and part rebuild.
Medite MDF has been used for a variety of applications including wall panelling, cabinets, display cases, lightboxes, showcases, worktops and ceiling panels.
The majority of the Medite is FR flame-retardant Class 1 (Euro Class C), with the balance provided by environmentally friendly Medite Ecologique, MDF with zero-added formaldehyde. It has been supplied by Creffields (Timber & Boards) and the fitting out is being done by Scena.
In most cases the Medite MDF provides a substrate for oak facings, laminates and paint.
A main feature is a 100m-long curved wall on both the mezzanine and ground floors, totally clad in Medite FR panels with a red laminate surface.
Acoustic ceilings have also been created in three large display area, using frames of 12mm thick Medite FR fitted with panels of acoustic foam.
