Mid-Sussex Timber Co Ltd has hailed its first open day as a success and said it is considering staging similar events in the future.

The East Sussex-based timber merchant opened the doors of its Forest Row site to customers and the public, with tours of its mill and pressure treatment facilities on offer alongside a decking products display.

The company told TTJ the event had enabled it to interact with the local community and educate them on the products and services it offers, as well as creating stronger links with trade customers.

The event included displays from AEG Power Tools, Anglo Building Products and treatment specialist Osmose.

Local radio station Meridian was also in attendance, interviewing managing director Tim Waters on the company’s products and Osmose’s Phil Emsley on the importance of preservative treatment.

“As this was our first open day we were surprised by the number of visitors we had and the interest shown in our business,” said Mr Waters.

“We will certainly consider running another event either here or at one of our other branches.”

The company operates branches in Crowborough, East Grinstead and Haywards Heath, as well as the Forest Row site.
