Building components giant MiTek and engineered wood products specialist Trus Joist are planning a joint venture to develop ‘whole-house’ design software for the timber frame construction market.
It will be primarily for the North American market but a longer-term goal is to provide it on a worldwide basis.
The new software will provide architectural design and structural engineering for a complete timber frame house. Most homes are currently designed using several applications, with separate software for the roof and floor/wall panels.
MiTek chief executive Gene Toombs said: ‘Combining Trus Joist’s top-level engineering and manufacturing capabilities with MiTek’s ability to develop state-of-the-art software will take our industry to the next level.’
The companies expect to finalise the partnership soon, with development starting later this year and expected to take several years.
