And, added Mr Scott, there is no sign of this reducing. “In fact some within Building Control have expressed their belief that, within five years, we will need to completely re-write or re-format all the Approved Documents to the England and Wales Building Regulations.”

TRADA has introduced a new briefing service for members to help them keep abreast of regulatory and other changes through “timely and succint summaries”.

The new service will focus initially on the England & Wales Building Regulations, concentrating on areas that have recently changed or are being proposed for change, including Part L, Part A and Home Information Packs.

“Changes to Building Regulations are one of the biggest external factors facing our industry,” said Mr Scott. “Without being fully up to speed with all the key changes and proposals we cannot make the most of the opportunities and deal with the threats they inevitably bring.”

TRADA will deliver regular briefings to members as part of their membership benefits package, via its website and regular e-newsletter.

It is also considering trialling annual ‘breakfast updates’ at various locations around the UK.
