The latest NHBC stats show UK new home starts fell 16% between March and May compared to a year ago.

Starts totalled 27,150 homes during the period, compared to 30,638 in February-April.

But registrations during the month of May itself picked up from the previous month to 9,150 (April: 8,414).

Starts in March were 13,307 but these figures were skewed due to 2,800 units in the London Olympics Athletes’ Village being registered.

Rolling 12 month statistics show there were 103,050 starts in the UK, compared to 102,900 for the preceding 12-month period.
